The 2020 Autumn Hok Tsui joint field campaign

Under the scheme of our Theme-Based project, we conducted a joint field campaign at Hok Tsui, HK, during Sept.-Dec. 2020, with collaborators from HKPolyU, HKUST, CUHK, and HKEPD. The field site experiences both oceanic air from the south and urban outflow from the north, consistent with our Theme-Based project goal of investigating urban-terrestrial-oceanic interactions. We deployed a suite of state-of-the-art instruments to monitor the chemical composition of air, including trace gases (e.g. reactive halogens, OH radicals) and particulate matters (e.g. sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, organics) Scientific data generated by these instruments will contribute to the understanding of emissions and chemical processing of air pollutants and their health impacts.
During the field campaign, the project team members worked closely, help each other, and actively reported progress. On 16 November 2020, an online meeting was organized and preliminary results were discussed. More meetings will be scheduled in the coming months, with observational data further compiled and analyzed. With the joint efforts, the project team will seek for scientific breakthrough in coastal urban air pollution and offer policy advices to improve local and regional air quality.
